This piece captures an Indian Air Force Spitfire Mk XVIII, HS636, set against a warm crimson-orange sky as it banks over Ambala. It reflects a subtle yet significant transition, from the familiar RAF roundel to the early chakra markings that would go on to define a new identity.
What appears simple at first glance proved to be one of the more challenging aircraft I’ve worked on, particularly in getting the proportions and canopy just right. The composition aims to balance motion with atmosphere, placing the aircraft within a moment that feels both historic and quietly personal.
If you take a closer look, you might notice the small details that bring it all together, each one carefully considered.
